It was 15 below zero this morning in NY when I hopped in my 95 XLT. Quickly the temperature gauge began rising past normal operation temperature and I was getting no heat. So I parked the truck and took the car assuming the was no coolant, perhaps it leaked out.
Just checked and the coolant is fine. Since this morning the temp has gone up (outside) and is around 25. The Heater works and engine temp is normal.
This morning the truck acted like it had no coolant at all. My reasoning is:
*It could not be a stuck thermostat or I would have had heat inside and the temp would not have gone up so fast.
*If the water pump was frozen or not turning the serpentine belt would have been chewed up and it looks fine.
*If for some reason the serpentine was not turning I would have noticed the power steering not working and I did not.
I recently changed the coolant and put in a 50/50 mix. And one side note. On occasion I hear a squeaking. I assumed it is just the idler tension pulley on the serpentine and plain to replace it when it gets warmer. It is intermediate and not real bad.
