Going to go for the ever popular (and cheap) 2" TT and shackle lift on my 98 XLT AWD. Per the tire sticky on this site, Ill also be going with 15x8 and 32x11.5x15's (edit) with that 2" lift.

My main question...everywhere I look at the Warrior shackles (pt#WAR153) they say they will "lift a vehicle from 1/2" to 2" maximum", but then advertise them as lifting 1.25"

So will WAR153 really give the rear end a 2" lift? Would homemade shackles be better to make sure I can get a full 2"?

Also, OT....I will need to replce the shocks while Im there....what are some suggestions for shocks? No "real" off-roading...mostly a pavement pounding commuter that sees occassional light duty off roading (mostly snow/mud/ect.)

Thanks!

Alfred

You might need some trimming in the front with those wheels and tires. I just got the Rancho RS5000, very nice, firm ride, performance is better than stock as well.

Anyone else have any input?

Im assuming the use of 2" lift blocks is a no-no? The shackles seem like the more popular choice....but again, will I get the full 2" from the Warriors, or should I go with some homemade (i.e. machine shop made) shackles?

Can anyone tell me the lenght of the stock shackles (eye to eye)?

Thanks

Alfred

This really a generalized statement covering thier entire line of shackles
some vehicles can be lifted higher by Shackles others not. You can build your own but might run into problems with spring wrap/binding, pinion angles etc.
So if you go this route....good luck

Can't use the blocks since Explorers are Spring Under Axle if you did u would lower the vehicle not raise it!

most likely your explorer is sagged in the rear... shackles might only bring it back up to stock heigth. meaning u would need something else along with it to match the 2" your trying to get up front. add-a-leaves are an option. some people hate them some people have no problem at all with them. i welcomed the firmed up ride. and the added lift. and i have less body sway. i still have aal's on my truck with 4 dr leaf packs. i'm guessing you'll probably need something more than just the shackles. unless u don't mind the back sitting lower. or your x isn't sagging bad in the rear. i wouldn't make shackles any longer than the warrior shackles already are. aside from looking like crap it can cause a good amount of problems like cybergasm said.

pro comp es3000's are nice shocks ive used them lifted and lowered, they are hydraulic but are good enough for most peoples needs.

4 wheel parts sells 4 for 135.00 I think, you get a free steering stabilizer order one for a popular truck and you can sell it on ebay or give it to a friend as a birthday/just becuase gift.

You are correct in assuming there is quite a bit of rear sag.

So if I go with a Pro Comp AAL and the Warrior Shackles, will that provide a 2" lift from where it sits now, or will that provide 2" from where it is supposed to sit (if it wasn't sagging)?

Thanks again...this forum is amazing!

i built my own to lift me 2 1/4" high

I'm running 32's on my 95 X 4-door. I did the TT and AAL in the rear. The only trimming I had to do was on my front valance and on the side skirts that to the front fenders. I was going to do the shackles, but decided to do just the AAL because my sag was very light in the rear. Check this link for pics. Hope it helps...
