Tune-Up help ? ?

97 Explorer XLT AWD V8 5.0

I’m thinking of doing a tune up myself, but I have come across some information that suggests modern cars do not need tune-ups (they self tune-up) and another bit of info said that only dealers can tune-up??

If I am able to do it what would I need (parts/tools) and is it simple?

Anyone can do a tune-up as long as their smart enough and have the right tools. A tune up consist usually of just plugs, wires, PCV valve. I'm sure some people will recommend other little things - but a tune up from the dealer will consist of the above. Get the recommended plugs for your vehicle - having the wrong plugs can cause all types of issues
