Well, I'm about to make another trek across the country in my '94 XTL 4x4, so I'm doing repairs. I want/need to replace my U Joint(s), but my Haynes has about 87 steps to do it. I'm sure it's much more simple. Could someone please direct me along the right path? I'm sure there's directions somewhere on this website, but I couldn't find them! Help!

Ok... im not 100% sure on how to do it.. but what i do have at home is a repair manual in cd form with diagrams which the techs at ford use to do repairs on our X's....do you have a cable modem or dsl?
Because I will send you the program... Its a good cd, it has helped me better then the haynes book.

Haven't see you around the board in a while...
Welcome Back :D

Call a driveline shop and find out how much $$$ it would be to install the new joints and balance the shaft.

That is what I did. I just took the drive shaft off and took it to them. The whole thing cost me $30.

Which U-joints?? If it is drive shaft joints then it will be less steps. If it is axle shaft joints, get ready to do a whole bunch of work. Unless you have a press you will need to bang out the old joints using a socket that is smaller than th joint on the pounding end and one that is larger than the joint on the recieving end (or that's what I did) Unless you are going across country to wheel there is no reason you need to change any up front. I haven't taken a close look at my rear shaft cause it is still good.
Good luck and get greasy.

Here ya go... Dead Link Removed
