Any ideas who makes a nice under dash console? I want to add a CB, scanner, crossover network and eq.

Also I'm looking for a matching paint for the speaker grills as over the years they've picked up rust and scratches.

Vehicle is a 91EB, green/tan, 4dr, 2wd.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Hank... It seems like you are really a pretty good do-it-yourselfer. I'll tell you honestly, that I've seen most of those under dash consoles, the ones that sit on the humps of our models in front of the factory consoles, and they're really disapointing. They seem nice in pictures, and end up being really light weight, thin plastic boxes, with light MDF covers.

If you're going to add all that cool stuff, you might want to try making your own. A friend of mine did it, and he said it wasn't really difficult, but a little challenging, but a fun project nonetheless. Then you can tailor it to your specific needs. Just make sure that you're ready to deal with the prospect of prpying eyes. Maybe some type of cover?

As for the grills, I'm looking too. I know that the Circuit City's around my area offer a service of painting aftermarket grills for customers to match their interiors. Maybe you could just ask them what they're using or would suggest if that same service is availabe near you.

Thanks again Jon,

Any chance you could put up a shot of your friends console?

I'll give circuit city a shot. When I lived in CA there was an body shop supply store that stocked spray paints for darn near every OEM color. Including paints for plastic parts. I have no idea who made the paint and can not remember the name of the shop.

I'll keep looking down here in the tropics but I might have to head over to Miami or Tampa for "real" supply houses.

Thanks again.

Hi Hank,

You know, if I do get a chance, I'll get a pic for you, but really, I would say it won't be for a long, long time, though. He's more like a "friend at work" and that was my old work, so I don't go around too often. However, one of the links on my trucklinks page was to Rich's Cartunes, and the have an Explorer very similar to your being worked on. His console (the front part anyway, he kept the stock console) is very much similar that the one on that website, only he installed a Kenwood EQ and a6 disk changer.

Pretty much, it was wide enough, because of the changer, that it fit directly over the hump in the middle. Then he wrapped it up in the same color vinyl, and that was it. If that place you're referring to is anywhere around in the S. CA region, drop me a line if you remember, and if I get out that way, maybe I can pick you up some parts! I'll just tell my girlfriend we're going on a - uh... roadtrip?! Dead Link Removed

Jon
