94 Ranger 4.0 auto. When I put it in 4X4 H, It will clunk/bang when accelelating. Coasting-no noise. All tests done on gravel/dirt road. All four tires are same manufacture and size. The harder I accelerate the loader the noise. It sounds like there is a tooth missing on the ring gear. The noise is so load when accelerating, it sounds like something is going to break. The noise seems to be timed, like every second it will clunk at 15 mph.
I have tried to fix the problem by: put on new manual hubs, Took front differential out and checked gears and bearings. Checked the axles and u-joints. Changed the transfer case, still the same type of noise. I don't know which way to go now. Somebody please help! Thanks!
