Just some FYI here. A grille emblem for 1995-2001 will work on the rear hatch/door on 1998-2001. The emblems are the same size, the difference is the grille emblem is mounted with self-threading nuts on studs and the rear emblem is mounted with adheasve with locating studs. The studs on the grille emblem are in the same location as the rear emblem, the only difference is the length of the studs. Use Loctite Power Grab mounting tape to put the grille emblem on the back door, then use a hacksaw blade to trim the studs on the back side. The studs must be trimmed so the handle will have room to operate and open the back door. This worked great for me. The grille emblem part number is F87Z-8213-BA.

Why go through all of that when you could just use the correct emblem if they're the same size? ...or was it a "fyi if you have one laying around" kind of thing? (I'm just missing the obvious I guess?)

That's a pretty good thing to know actually, but I agree with Joe in hoping that that's just a FYI thing. I know when I bought my tailgate from a junkyard, the Ford emblem on the black trim piece was pretty destroyed, luckily I used my old one. But its always nice to know what works where and what doesn't. Thanks

To all: I had a new grille emblem and needed a new rear door emblem. It worked.

Instead of double stick mounting tape, use a very thin layer of clear silicone seal.
Used it to bond my stainless TFP door handles and emblem. Won't bulge or dry out.
Almost permanent, and very strong. Would also be a nightmare to remove when cured. LOL

Got it... Now it makes sense!
