yay or nay?

poke a hole, pump it in then seal it up? can i get away with that or will the lube not get to where it needs to go? i'd rather not risk tearing the boot and breaking those clamps if i can avoid it.

I just took my drive shaft down, replace the u-joints, took apart the slip yoke, cleaned/lubed it and replaced the boot with a universal Rack/Pinion boot. I held it on with wire tires (They look like clamps when you look under the truck).

I have drive about 3k miles since I did it, and the boot is working great. It hasn't moved and it stretches/compress enough for the joint.

I say nay--it's a poor way to lube the slip yoke--

It may or may not get the grease in where it needs to be--on the splines--so all your hard work of needling it in there might go to waste. It only takes 30 mins to do it right even if you have never done it before.

The stock clamps suck, get some real aircraft-style hose clamps. Grease up the splines and odds are you won't have to mess with it again for 2-3 years.
