Okay people. My V8 runs on regular octane and synthetic oil. However, The only mod I have in my '00 is just the K&N drop-in. The problem is when am driving on the highway at 70 mph going over a overpass, I hear a rattling noise from the engine. The reason I say synthetic oil maybe to blame, i think its maybe just "finer" which I assume it could be that. Anyone have any idea if synthetic can cause this? I dunno if its the gas or not, since am running regular. What should I do??? I used to have a '92 and of course it did started to rattle on highway speeds which were probably the lifters. I was running syntheic also on that, but I had to use super-unleaded for the JET chip. Help me hot fellas, should I just go to a higher octane? switch oils? Gimme some feedback. Thanks

Xplor,

It's not the oil that's causing the valve rattle. More than likely you've got some carbon build up or a dirty MAS. There has been some discussion about using ATF in the gas to help clean things up in the engine. You may want to do a search to find the thread. And there has also been plenty of discussion about how to clean the MAS.

AMSOIL Power Foam will help clean up the carbon build up also, especially from the air intake side. We call it "Tune Up in a Can".
