anyone have any suggestions on changing valve cover gaskets on a 92 explorer 4.0...

thanks

one side is not too much trouble though to get to it without cross threading an bolt i would suggest to take the intake manifold loose and put it out of your way( this is for the driver side valve cover)

you need to take that plastic cover off your throttle body so you can get to the nut under it. however for the other side you need to take your iginition coil + bracket off, and i also drained the radiator and got the big hose out of the way that just crosses over the corner of the passenger side valve cover, after you got all that loose you shouldn't have too much trouble getting to it.

BTW if you bought an gasket set from Autozone and you have the Fellpro set then you also have an intake manifold gasket with it ;)...that should give you somekind of clue.

ooh and while your add it, change the plugs if you haven't done so, they alot easier to get to when everything is off , and it saves you some times next turn around.

just remeber this :

it's better to take some more parts off , and to spend some time ,to get to it better then to have to screw around and end up cross threading an bolt.

you can have this done in an few hours , just take your time, like always..heh

Ford has a metal rubber composite replacement gasket that I would suggest. I used them on my rebuild and have no problems them.(only 15k miles so far). Torrie at Ford Parts Network can get them.

On reassembly watch the torque values on the bolts, and make sure the joint between the head and the manifold is CLEAN before you put the RTV on. Check the intake to head joint carefully for intake gasket problems.

It would be a good idea to check the intake gasket, or at least the torque of the bolts since the valve cover seals to the intake also.

Have fun
