Hey guys, I am new around here, just bought an 05 Explorer XLT.

My driveway is on a hill and I noticed the other night when I let my foot off the gas the vehicle slowly rolled backwards even though it was still in Drive.

Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks
Murph

Don't think so but one of the tranny guru's might chime in about this too but on my 99 it did the same thing but i never worried about it tho i used it like and reverse gear especially when getting into tight spots on an uphill:D

The torque convertors are designed a bit "loose" to keep the vehicle from having a tendency to "creep" or feel like it's constantly pulling on the brakes when sitting at a stoplight. What you're experiencing is totally normal...Mine does the same thing.

I'd agree it is nothing to worry abought. If you think of a torque converter as two fans one(impeller) is plugged in and blowing at the other(turbine) which is not, you will get movement out of the second from the air flow from the first. Now you can hold or slow the second fan or turn it backwords which would simulate the weight of the vehicle, sitting on a hill etc... Add a stator to redirect the air more efficiantly and you have a simple torque converter. Thats how it was explained to me years ago in auto shop class.
