Just asking for any advice for my wife who is also a driver on our 94. She's 5'3 but has a hard time reaching the pedals unless she practically has the steering wheel pressed against her. Is there anything that can be put on the pedals, or, well we don't know what else to do, if anything else can be done?

blocks on the pedals could work, but make sure they are very secure,, make them out of steel , not wood,,

Easy solution...

I recommend these ones instead

Seriously though.... I don't know what to say that could help you. My sister is 5'1 and can reach the pedals in my or my father's explorer.

Back in grade school, we had a very short bus driver. The mechanic stacked 2 layers of 2x4 on the brake pedal and secured them with long screw-type hose clamps. Seemed to work well enough. But, any added weight to the brake pedal could maybe possible cause brake-riding and cause problems for the cruise-control.

Googled on 'Pedal Extenders' and got a lot of good hits on products that may be just right.

They will never be as cool as the shoes though. Just saying.

5' 3" isn't that out of the ordinary for a female...I'm confused.

Wood or metal blocks to fit as needed and held in place with large strong house clamps. now for the extra weight deal and how it may push down the peddles just add a spring to lift them back up by only the amount needed so that there is a negative lift or down ward push from the blocks.

You could also try a deferent seat that sat a bit lower so that she could be closer and you a bit farther back to achieve the same effect. this is also a refit that is some what cowmen being that given a persons stature small or large has nothing to do or say about there inseam length and that is were it is all at when dealing with the peddles . I am 5' 10" and sit a lot closer then my wife who at 5'5" sits back so far I can not drive were she sits but she can reach the pedals fine for me there almost out of reach and I am using my toes. So height really dose not matter but inseam dose. Now in our Taurus its wonderful as it has adjustable peddles and so it’s easy to adjust things for each of us when we go on long trips. Its also one thing I will look for in any new auto when I replace any of ours.

Don't sweat it...I'm 6'1 and my wife is 5'2 and she complains she can't reach the pedals either....and we have a manual trans in our Explorer to boot. Needless to say she doesn't drive it much-when she's not complaining about "how hard the clutch is to press in" HAHA

if it has electric seats tilt forward and down

I'm 5'4" and I don't have any trouble reaching the pedals - in fact, I don't ever have to put the seat all the way forward either, it's like a position or two back on the track. I'm confused too.

Is there possibly something wrong with your driver's seat? Since the 94s don't have the power seats (I don't think, at least my XLT doesn't), could there be something physically wrong with tracks/mechanisms or the seat itself? It just seems like a lot of trouble to go through to install these goofy pedal extension things, especially when you don't need them yourself.

The Explorer had Power Seats optional ever since their first day on the assembly line in 1990.

For her she can reach the pedals if she pulls the seat all the way forward, but then the steering wheel is pressed against her...uh...rack. And that's not comfortable for her.

Rack and pinion steering ;-) I could understand that not being comfortable.

so what you are saying is she has a pinched rack when she is driving with the seat forward. :D

I used to drive my one truck with a pillow at my lower back because the seat did not move. and that way I could reach the pedals. it was also a clutch too
