my 1999 x has a slight vibration and hum (i guess) at 75 mph. i don't think it is a tire out of balance. probably more like drive shaft. i really don't know. anyone else have this or heard of this problem?

Yeah, my '97 Mountaineer is doing it too, and the dealer told my dad that it was the tires. I too thought that it was a driveshaft or a u-joint, but it makes sense to me that the tires are the problem. My Pirelli Scorpion AT's are getting noisier and vibrating more and more as time goes on. Now, I'm thinking either Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO or the Michelin LTX A/T.

My 98 Ranger did the same thing. I balenced and rotaited the tires. It helped a lot, and it is cheap.

the revos are actually a decent at tire.... michelins are more for the street....
get the tires rebalanced, and ask that they do fine balancing, not the one that rounds the #s.... each side should be out more than .1 ounce or 1-2 grams

Well, I've had 2 reputable tire shops around town rebalance them a couple of times and two alignment jobs done, and now the dealership says that the problem is the tires. I'm gonna call them on Monday to get more detail since that's all that my dad told me about my vehicle since he's anxious to drive it around some more while I'm out of town on company time for training.

my truck has a vibration at about 70-75 mph too, but i never considered the tires. i was always under the impression that only low-end tires would giv eyou problems like that, and i have pirelli scorpion zeroes. i guess ill try to have them rebalanced one more time, then go from there. they still have a ton of tread left, so im keeping for a while, no matter what.

I also get that vibration at 75 and the faster you go the more the vibration.I put on 4 mich apt's and had them balanced and a allignment. The vibration is still there but not as bad.As far as the humming sound.I notice that at 55mph or so and only when pressing on the gas..

Well, I just talked to the dealership, and they said that my front tires are cupped. I guess that I will attempt to swap my rear tires back to the front and then run my mud tires on the back until I find out whether Tirerack or Pirelli can warranty my tires, but they may not. I guess that I will be looking at new tires.
