I have a 97 5.0 AWD and I am getting a short sharp vibration from the front passenger side when i hit 40 to 45 miles and hour and it shifts to 3rd gear.
It almost feel like when you hit the rumble strips on the shoulder of the highway. Any ideas? I have crawled uder and looked for anything loose, tie rod, cv joint front axle and all seems fine.

Look for threads titled "2-3 shift flare", and check the transmission forum, I think there is a sticky in there for it.

I dont think the 2-3 flare causes any vibrations -- just a high RPM lag time between the two gears. But I could be wrong :D

Have you had any transmission work done lately? I had the same issue, it was the bolts that secure the driveshaft. Worth a try see if they are tight. Ray

I have had the Explore for 3 years and have not had any work done except filter and oil change when I first bought it. I put new tires on it and rotate then on a pretty regular basis.

I will crawl under and check the bolts on the drive shaft this weekend
