Hey, everyone.

I've been using an iPod Touch in my 2017 Explorer Sport with the Sony system, as well as my previous 2015 Explorer Sport with the Sony system. As glitchy as both Sync systems were, each for different reasons, the one thing that has worked pretty much flawlessly is the voice control. That is until the most recent iOS update for the iPod Touch. Now the voice system is pretty much useless. Instead of being able to say "Play song so and so, or play album so and so" and have the system actually play those, now all I get is a voice that tells me "I didn't get that."

This is really frustrating for me because it's such a useful feature. That is until Apple decided to "improve" my iPod experience with the last update. I had a similar issue with the last iPad I had owned for years and years, which became utterly useless to me after an "update." So infuriating!!

Anyone able to shed light or offer any advice? I've done a Sync master reset, didn't help.

Did you try 're-pairing' the phone and the vehicle's Sync systems by deleting both and setting them up all over again? (starting from scratch)

It's an iPod and it's connected to the car via USB.

Unfortunately, the Sync system is antiquated with no updates of late while Apple and others keep improving and updating their products. At some point and time, the systems diverge and no longer work together, unless Sync is updated so that it is again compatible with updated operating systems. I hope I'm incorrect and you are able to get all functions working again, but just an opinion.

Restore the iPod, and don’t do the update.

Good idea and hope it works. However, when Apple released an iOS update around the time of the iPhone 7s, there was no turning back on that catastrophic update which caused multiple issues with 6s, but worked well for the 7s at that time.

Eventually everything becomes obsolete. For something like an iPod, I wouldn’t bother with updates. Can probably get a used one, and sync it to your iTunes, and set it to never update.

I'm inclined to agree. Is there a way to update Sync? The dealership literally won't do it. I've been unsuccessful at updating the system myself no matter what I try, whether off the SyncMyRide website, my cell phone, or either of my home's two wi-fi routers. Very frustrating.

Have you tried asking Ford to send you the update on a USB drive?
