Does anyone know what technically voids an extended warrenty? I just bought my truck about 2 mouths ago and it has 5 year/75k warrenty. I wanted to add aftermarket exhaust and an aftermarket airfilter system... Do you guys think that this would void my warrenty?
Thanks :)

As stated by SEMA (Speciality Equipment Manufacturers Association), the dealership must prove that the aftermarket part was the cause of the failure. So if you put in a KKM intake for instance, and your truck sucked in water....tough. If you lower the truck and the sway bar breaks, and if they can prove that the lowering caused it....tough. If the bumper falls off, and they try to blame it on the intake......they're nuts! LOL!

With the two mods you mentioned, they should not have any impact on the extended warranty. Definitely not the exhaust, if you install the K&N replacement (drop-in) air filter then no problem but if you replace your entire air box/intake with the KKM or K&N FIPK then it's iffy. If you decide to replace it with the KKM or K&N FIPK, keep your existing air-box and re-install it for any warranty or emission work.

with the mods that you mentioned i doubt that your warranty would be voided. if you really want to be sure just go talk to the dealer. tell them what you want to do and i think that you would find that they wouldnt mind but then agian they told me that my stereo was causing my poor gas economy of 11mpg. in general i dont see how bolt-ons would void the warranty but to be safe you might want to swap back the stock air box before you bring your car to the dealer for service or in my case lots and lots of warranty work.

lmao to the dealer.

I have the Borla cat-back on my truck and am very happy with it. it was an easy installationa nd sounds great. Never had dealer say a word about it.

Kristen if money is not an issue to you, you may want to try the different brands and pick the one that pleases your ears. I have the Borla and it sounds great imho. I have never heard the Flowmaster in an Explorer V8 (SOHC V6 and Mustang 5.0 yes), so I can't vouch for the people who have one.

As far as your warranty goes, I think it's been covered by the above posts already. Good luck.

I can't find a Borla that fits on my 94 Sport 4x4 anywhere.
If she can good luck...

Just FYI....like mentioned above the dealer may not be able to void the warranty because of aftermarket equipment but they can refuse to work on it!

I had an aftermarket chip installed on my diesel and a dealer refused to work on it period! Even though there are dealers selling and installing these chips!

If I had gotten a lawyer and pushed the issue I probably would have been able to beat the dealer. But look how much trouble that would be. Not to mention $$$

Just my 2 cents.

Lucky
