Ok first off I have a 1993 explorer sport.
1- The past few days I have been having trouble starting my truck..One minute it would turn over an start fine, then next I have no power what so ever. Also noticed the voltage gauge moving back an fourth pretty steady. Well I take out my old battery, cleaned the terminals cleaned the wires going to the terminals, an put in a good charged battery.. It seems to start up fine now but it is a fully charged battery so only tomorrow will tell lol.. but also with this now my voltage gauge is way before 8 it doesn't move at all now!! I also started the truck an removed the positive cable an it stayed running so therefor the Alt. is good right??!!??

2- I rebuilt my shift motor an replaced it today before putting in the new battery, I tried the module test before an after an no light what so ever, but after installing the rebuilt shift motor I did hear the clicking very well from the back still with no lights on 4x4 buttons an even tried the module test with no result.. I give up for a while an come in here to read up on some things an end up going back out an pulled the 4x4 buttons to see if they was plugged in. Come to find out there was one wire that was cut an believe orange with red on it, not sure to much going threw my head right now. but had a lil piece of wire added to it an was not hooked up, so i put it threw the connector that plugs into the 4x4 buttons. An once putting it back together i got no clicking from the module.. an then my voltage gauge is not working not sure if hooking that wire back into the connector did it or what but it's all got my mind in a mess...

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 4x4 button an module? an what kind of voltage I should be getting to what wires coming from the module an buttons? Any an Allll suggestions an advise will be greatly appreciated, I have two vehicles 1 my truck an another is my stang that my girl is driving for the time being an im having trouble with that as well so for the past few weeks its been one thing after another with both vehicles.. Once again Thanks in advance for all suggestions an help!

No.. The vehicle can run off of the battery for awhile before draining it.. If you have a voltage tester and test the battery it should read ~12v (engine off). Start the engine and test the battery. It should read ~14v if the alternator is working.. See Automotive charging system for pics and info..

K.. SO it started fine today with no problems but now I notice that its not only the voltage gauge but the temp, gas, rpm gauge doesn't change or move.. is there a fuse that controls all these?

K I was not able to get a volt meter, but found a lil volt tester an only shows up to 13 volts. The battery in the off position came up with the 12 volts an with it running 13 volt light light up... tried reseting the computer with no luck.

I have done plenty of searches on here an seen 2-3 post where people had the same problem to the t, but there was no answer to how to fix it or nothing, an they was 2-4 years old...... so I know im not the only one so come on guys help me out please this is driving me crazy, cause I got my 4x4 computer to click when I hit the button, rebuilt the shift motor an have manual hubs on the way.. Trying to get my 4x4 working seeing how winter is knocking on our door...

Okay it is appears your battery and alternator are fine.. Here is the fuse location chart It looks like fuse #9 controls the Cluster warning lamps and electronic 4x4. I'm guessing the previous owner had some wiring prob and couldn't figure it out and just cut the 4x4 switch wire to get the gauges working...

Hey DeRocha, Thank you soo much for your input, I did check that an others at the time an the fuse was fine. But just went out there to check again still fine so i just started pulling fuses an guess what lol 16 was blown... it was the air conditioning fuse...

So got all my guages working again, an the 4x4 is clicking once again just need a new 4x4 module an i should be set... Thanks once again

1) Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the 4x4 system?
2) And on the shift motor 2 heads busted off, whats the best thing to use an way to get em out? Tried a few metal drill bits that are smaller to drill the bolt itself an try an thread smaller ones in but didn't work out to well..

K got a question about the 4x4 button, I just purchased another 1993 exp. The 4x4 computer passed the test, I rebuilt the motor an checked it from jumping the wires. I plugged it in an just held it while father hit the button inside, well nothing happened no clicking from the computer an motor wouldn't turn of course...Well I toke the 4x4 button out an switched it with the one from mine which works, an still nothing... So the one that was in the newer exp. does work cause it works in my older exp.. so is there any other module or thing that goes bad that plugs into the 4x4 button? Or any suggestions on what might be the problem now? Great Thanks to this site has helped me soo much

Here is the 4x4 electrical diagram. Of course you need to think about why the previous owner cut one of the switch wires in the 1st place. Maybe a wire rubbed its insulation off and shorted out; and the quick solution was to cut the wire..
