thanks for the info after reading that and seeing what was done i think im goin to go with a 3 inch body and tt to be sure and clear the 33s do to i live in rough country were its a every day thing to flex your truck so i need max room to move .... did the 33s rob it of power or ability to pull a load ?

Depends on your gearing. I ran 33's on my truck with the 4.0 and 3.55 gears. Acceleration was bogged down and pulling a chord of wood in a 12' trailer was absolutely ridiculous, pedal to the floor from a dead stop and id creep forward like a dying horse

look up what kind of gearing you have in the diff. im lucky in the fact that i have 4.10's, but even with the 4.10's having the 33"s has me planning on moving up to 4.56's. after a lot of reading and some good convo with fellow members with the same set up, 4.56's seem to be the optimal gearing with these tracs when running 33" tires.

what goes into regearing to 4:56 and do you have to match the front?

Pickupman, you have to have matching gears F/R on a 4wd/ AWD.

you def have to match the front or you will throw your whole drivetrain off. you will need a ring and pinion set, 2 matching sets to be exact. make sure you are looking at sets that fit ford 8.8 10 bolt diffs. i have been looking around and there are about 220 bucks plus tax on most sites, but i recently found a set on ebay for 145 with free shipping. im currently looking into these, but im a little hesitant to buy gears from ebay until someone else on the forum can share any advice on it. my next project was going to be a set of lights on my roof rack for the winter, but now its my mission to get 4.56's to get the power i lost back.

Open your drivers door and find the 2 character code listed under axle type or axle code.

42 = 4.10 open differential
45 = 3.55 open differential
46 = 3.73 open differential
D2 = 4.10 limited slip
D4 = 3.73 limited slip
D5 = 3.55 limited slip

The front diff is not a Ford 8.8, it's some kind of Dana, a 35 I think I'm just not positive off the top of my head the exact model.

thanks for all the info not wanting to do a gear swap rite now so i guess ill start by seeing what gears i have and go from there do to i drive tyhis every day and live in a moutain regoin

If it has 4.10's you could live with it.

4.10's with 33"s are def ok to run, im running that right now, and its not too bad, but like a said, some 4.56's would be the ticket!

I'm door code 42 (4.10 Open Diff) right now with 33"s, TT, and body lift and i can definitely tell a difference in acceleration. It's not there. I'll definitely be eyeballing a set of 4.56s sometime in the near future!

If you move up to 33's then you need 4.56 gears to keep the rpm vs. road speed about the same as stock.
