I picked up some pipe from my local metal supplier to sleeve my steering box. Are you looking for some DOM or just something that'll work? And how about some pics?! :p:

My dad and i have been working on trailers and sleeving where the hitch bolts on to the tongue. We found 3/4"x.125 wall DOM tubing that worked out very well.

EDIT: A great book for general knowledge including a very extensive metal size list is Pocket Ref by Thomas Glover. This book has been great for an beginning engineer.

For sleeving bolt holes, any sized pipe or tube that works will work. Isn't really a structural part, and you'll never compress any pipe or tube out there (except light-weight exhaust tubing).

I'd go to the local hardware and find the proper size black pipe, unthreaded, and use a section of that. Nice thing is that hole saws are made to fit the stuff, and it welds easily. Just get the oil off of it before welding so you get a good contact.

For a 1/2" bolt, use the 3/8" hardware store pipe. You will need to run a 1/2" drill bit through it but it wont take off much and is easy to do. Pipe is not correctly sized so the bolt wont fit tightly unless you do this.

So just a standard steel pipe available at the hardware will work. Thanks

Tim
