i myself have no experience w/custom roof racks, but you have to keep in mind that the roof itself is only so strong, so depending on what your plans are and what you plan on carrying you might have to put some supports in place under the headliner.
the roof racks on the explorers are pretty strong stock and can carry some good weight, so again what do you plan on carrying that you will need a stronger one? just asking. sorry.
A friend had made me a couple of steel 1" tube cross bars. They have 2 legs with tabs welded to them. The tabs are then bolted threw the stock tracks into the roof. You can drop the roof liner and add some thin 1/8" steel plates and a thin nut to the bolt, cut or measure bolt length just right so it don't go past the nut much.
These are strong enough to hold my roof basket with a 33" tire, a high lift jack, a steel shovel, and a spare fuel can.
Add a 3rd cross bar(far forward) and can add a mount point for lights and CB antennae.
Upload the image to a hosting site such as photobucket.com or imgur.com. Then copy the web address for the picture and click the button in the message box here that looks like a mountain and sun. It is the 7th button when doing a quick reply. Then just paste the web address for the image and submit your post.
JUST TRIED DOING WHAT U SAID TO POST PICTURE. I GUESS IT DIDNT WORK CAUSE ALL I SEE IS AND X. IM NOT TO GOOD WITH COMPUTERS. ITS A PICTURE OF MY TRUCK WITH A BIG LADDER ON ROOF
sorry, I don't know what to do in that situation. i guess look at the code and it should say
[ img ] www.blahblahblah.com.jpg [ /img ]
make sure that the .jpg or .png or .gif is there depending on the filetype. If it is, it may not be a supported filetype.
