Wanting V8 power but not 4 doors!

Can anyone tell me if the 95-97 Sport manual transmission will mate up with the 302? They should have offered it from jump, a lot more of them would've been sold.:roll:

no it will not bolt up.. many people on here have done the swap, even in 2drs. do some searching, look up member 410Fortune, he has 2 theads where he swapped a 302 and 4r70w trans in 2 different vehicles.

I think it was 99SportX or something like that, that swapped a 5.0L AWD into his Sport.

Do you have the OHV or SOHC v6? If you have the SOHC I would just stick with it honestly. They're pretty capable motors and actually a little faster than the 302's in stock form. Check out Jah81592, Jakee, and Aldive's builds. Aldive is more driven by gas mileage but he's done a lot to boost power too.

Yes it will fit fine, but you'll have to swap all of the computer and wiring over from the v8, the best way to do it is to buy a doner v8 explorer/mountaineer and swap everything over. If you search around on the forum you'll find lots of info about it.

yeah that was the original plan i am probably gonna buy a whole salvaged explorer and swap it over then i can get the 4dr leaf packs too for my lift! thanks for the advice

I bought an ENTIRE `97 Explorer 5.0L/4R70W AWD that was totalled in an accident for $450.

I sold the Trans for $350 and the rear for $250......I put the Leather Seats in my wifes Explorer, and I took the rest and put it in my Explorer.
