Some guy just rear-ended me tonight in his vanagon, I think he hit me only at 10km or so. Question is my truck looks fine except for a wear/tear on the hard plastic that sits on the bottom and top of the bumper, I'm going out tomorrow in the daylight to have a look under the truck. Is their anything I should look for under the truck as far as damage that might not be visible?

Gotta love having a real steel bumper, I'm sure if the truck had the new plastic bumpers it would be a 1000-1500 dollar repair. I was suprised to see so little visible damage as I felt he thumped me quite good.

Ps: the damage to his fiberglass bumper was quite extensive, he figured a 1000$ repair..

Well if the only damage it did to your X was the bumper molding.. I wouldn't look too much farther than the bumper brackets. They're designed to take the hit instead of your frame. But if you're bumper is still aligned, I wouldn't worry about any internal damage at all. :D

Thanks, it doesn't look like anything else is damaged but
I'll go under today and have a look at the brackets..

Thanks
Sid

Yeah, if the bumper is aligned then look no more.
If the bumper had moved look at the brackets.
If they are bent look at the lift gate alingment.
If that is off, look down the sides of the quarter panels.

Most likely you are at the brackets at the very most.

I have been rearended twice. Our steel bumpers as so great. Although one of the times the stupid cavalier went under it and knocked the exhaust to the side.

The bumper is perfectly aligned, but it's been raining
so I haven't gone under yet. The plastic trim on the top
of the bumper can now be lifted up on one side so I think maybe their is some kind of a plastic plug on the connect side of the plastic that may have sheared. I'm going to stop by a shop and have them have a boo..

Really makes you appreciate real steel for bumpers, doesn't it?
