- 1997 Ford Explorer XLT V8
Well i have part of the left side of my console lighting out which im assuming is bad bulbs its a 97 explorer xlt v8 just bought it used and so far love it aside from having to replace the drive shaft within a week :/ anyhow the problem arises when i use my high beams and 4 ways or just one or the other my speedometer will stop working. everything else works fine. if i turn the vehicle off and let it sit for a bit (not sure exact time frame maybe 30 min to an hour) the speedometer will work just fine i do notice at times when i use the turn signals instead of it coming on there will be a minor humming from console which is solved by turning it off and turning it back on but by pulling the switch towards the steering wheel slightly now assumption (havent tested anything yet still recovering from last minute needing a vehicle and undesired repairs during the holidays) would say the switch is going bad but i could be wrong ive also noticed the speedo will stop with just high beams on (i do alot of night driving norm with high beams and 4ways on so this could pose an issue at some point) one thing i like is the seat doesnt adjust close enough to the pedals for the wife to drive it!!! lol sorry had to also i recently noticed the odometer doesnt work any suggestions on where to start etc i know i can replace the bulbs in the dash but if im gonna do that id like to get other stuff taken care of as well really only wanna pull dash apart once if i can help it. oh and lastly prev owner said he had a problem where the cruise controls and (radio or right hand side cruise controls) melted on the steering wheel which i can see evidence of this not sure if its cruise on the left radio on the right or cruise on both but is this something i should worry about or find a replacement steering wheel for? thanks for your time and love browsing these forums figured its time i come out of the shadows
