When I started my van this morning it had a very high idle, like someone flooring the gas pedal.
I turned the key off and it was still running, but it was slow and stuttering. I waited a few minutes to see if it would turn itself off, nope!
I had to remove the batterry cable.
I waited a couple of minutes and put the cable back on and it started normally. This is the second time this has happened. Any ideas?

I don't know what that is :( So I'm thinkin that I don't.

A remote start system starts the vehicle when you press a button on the remote. It will run for a few minutes until the key is inserted into the ignition.

No remote start system

While I am thinking about it, I was having a starting problem earlier in the week just getting clicks, so I changed out the starter solenoid located on the fire wall. So this other problem started the day after I put in that part. Maybe a bad solenoid?

I'm at work right now but I will check the dash lights next time I start it up.

Yes, the guages turn off.

I'm pretty sure I kept the wiring the same...

It turned out being the new $23 starter solenoid. I replaced it with an $11 one from AZ. , been starting up fine ever since.

I have a 1995 Aerostar 4.0 AWD/4WD. I have a" REAL PROBLEM"with starting. When I turn the key on I first hear the pump in the tank, and then the booster in the engine compartment.
Then I try to start vehicle - won't start until I have repeated the foregoing and pumped the fuel feed a few times. If it starts sometimes it acts like its flooded - and by slightly depressing the pedal - it clears-out and runs as though it didn't have a problem in the World. Now it is real bad. I won't have a batery or starter at this pace. PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP,HELP,HELP.

Desperate

Allow your ECM to do what it does

Warren S,
I agree with Brooklyn Bay, & I would like very much to add the following.
I do not want to hijack this thread. I agree with MAFS & IAC error response you already have been given. I will contribute more to this post by adding that by pumping "fuel feed" I surmise you mean accelerator pedal. If you are doing that I'd hate to read your ECM with a scanner.

First accelerator does nor squirt or supply fuel, it supplies a signal from TPS & opens Intake Venturi plate to Air Flow thru MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) But has no/zero bearing on delivering liquid fuel. Injectors do that in accord with signals your ECM gets & sends. . . .

If Key is "ON" & Engine is Not Running, TPS still Sends a signal to ECM. But ECM recognizes you are KO-EO not KO-ER [Key On-Engine Off opposed to Key On - Engine Running] so ECM's at a total loss as to how to respond to a demand signal + it's inability to respond, since it knows your engine is not running. Then you stop cranking & restart the sequence again, and again and again until it starts. Confusing? Imagine what it does to Logic in OBD1 PROM Chip.

Once you get your MAFS / IAC problems corrected, try this. Enter Vehicle, turn key to on position, wait 'til your Piezo beeps 5 times & quits, +/- 3 seconds elapse time, then crank engine without touching your Accelerator pedal. Let the OBD-1 ECM do what it must do and it will probobaly start up right & cold idle as it warms it will lower idle speed according to programing in your ECM's PROM chip. When it all settles down you're good to go & should be for 100,000's of miles if you continue this regimin.

Cranking your starter while piezo sounds is a sure way to put variable volts & amperage through your ECM while it's attempting to Initialize, Load Run and operate your engine as programmed.

When you fire up a PC or Laptop before it does anything it must first initilize itself. Well so does System in your Aerostar, or any vehicle with OBD-I OR OBD II operating systems. Doing this and not trying to second guess or add old school remedies to new tech system with new tech issues will insure you a better, longer, more trouble free relationship with your vehicle. I will say if you are truly "into it" learn how Digital Control capability of an ECM actually works. It's not that complex I assure you.

CIAO & Many happy trouble free miles in your 95 Aero.
