I just need to be brutally honest right up front here. I'm not great at electrical troubleshooting but fixing an electrical problem might help me get laid so I need your help. We've already tried to meet once before but missed each other so its not as pervy as it sounds, OK maybe it is but you'd probably do it to so moving right along...
So, I haven't actually seen the Ranger in question yet but if I can figure out how to fix it I'm pretty sure I can meat the owner. Its almost like mine so I have a point of reference to refer to.
Heres exactly what I know so far, I've asked whats wrong with it...
"Its a little complicated. I have a 2000 Ford Ranger. When it rains, the problem gets worse. It has anti-lock breaks and when there is a lot of wet, the ABS light comes on and the breaks scrub (kind of bad). The check engine light comes on sometimes as well.
Once, it died completely when I put my breaks on going down the interstate. All the lights, interior and exterior died that time, as well as the motor, but I was able to pull to the shoulder, put it in park and it started right up.
It's really screwy and the issue wouldn't be noticeable to a mechanic unless it has rained for several days straight."
My first thought is take it to AutoZone, put it on the computer & see what it says but if it only does it in the rain it might say nothing is wrong. More importantly, I'm trying to be the hero here not a computer.
Said park so I'm gonna assume its an automatic. The breaks scrubbing is kinda throwing me because it doesn't sound like worn breaks if its electrically related. Water is obviously a major factor in what ever the problem is. I know there are different ABS sensors that can go bad or be affected by the wet if a connector is bad & turn the ABS light on but what the heck in the ABS system could get wet & shut down the entire electrical system killing the truck? The shut down sounds more like its coil pack related to me but "screwy" sounds accurate to me so what do I know?
Can you think of anything to narrow down the issue in question? Throw me some ideas & help me be the hero so I can rescue this Ranger in distress.
