I purchased my Sony xplod class d mono 1300w amp for 200 a couple weeks ago and today I was looking in the paper and saw that a alpine v-power 300 watt mono amp is 248 w/ amp kit. I need to power 2 1300w(each)sony subs and logically I bought the 1300w amp thinking it was best for my subs but now Im wondering should I return my Sony amp for the alpine. LOL I no it seems stupid to return a 1300w for a 300w but I'm a noob and I'm looking at the brand and price that's why I'm thinking about this some output would help. Thanks

That Sony does not put out 1300W on a regular basis.

Maybe 950W x 1 max power into 4 Ohms, 600W x 1 RMS into 4 ohms...

no idea what all that means LOL but it still seems like the sony is more powerful

ALPINE is the way to go, not sony. in my opinion, if i were you i would get a hi-fonics amp.

well...judging by this post...the sonys subs are 1300 watt max...the sony amp is probably 1300 watts max...although the alpine is probably 300 watts rms...

give me the model #'s of your subs and the two amps and ill tell you which one would be better

if he has the same xplods i used to have, they have 360 watts rms. Those are the newer version ones, the older versions have like 300 rms, so that amp would logically put out hopefully around there....

don't look at max power, look at rms

thanks auburnfan the mdl # of the subs is xs-L124p5b the Sony amp is xm-gtr6001
but I dont no the# of the alpine amp but its v-power 300watt mono amp but I was planning one buying a 1000watt monster amp kit or 1000w stinger wire wouldn't I b able get atleast a 1000w of power from the amp to the subs???

alright...like rumproast said dont look at max power, look at rms...the subs are 380 watts rms each at 4 ohms (with single voice coil)...the amp is 600x1 mono block...this amp would be ideal to run those subs...if your looking to go bigger your going to blow the subs..

you get what you pay for...your "1300 watt" amp is really a 400 watt amp.

Well its not really 400 watt amp, and like i said before it was $200(From Bestbuy on a huge sale in Canada called Boxing day), reg price currently at bestbuy $300

What he's saying is that Sony claims it to be a 1300 watt amp. They could claim the same amp is 15000 watts. Doesn't matter what they claim it to be, it won't put out 1300 watts. I would assume the Alpine would outperform it, and last longer. You don't get a "real" 1300 watt amp for $2-300. If you put 1300 watts to any 2 Sony subs, they would likely "xplod" in a bad way in a few minutes. The brand of an amp if FAR more important than the manufacturers claims.

Yeah i understand that but i doubt they are 400w, but 600w rms is good for these because as you said it will otherwise "xplod" lol, but i anticipate that this setup would be fine right the subs i think are 380w rms and the amp 600w

I don't really understand the problem. The Sony amp will power the Sony subs. Should you return it for the Alpine? Depends. Are you running a crossover? I assume the Alpine built in x-over would be better than the Sony's, if it has one.

each of my amps were $400 at the time...they are a "true" 300 watt rms each...like its been said you dont have a true 1300 watts...not even half of 1300 watts...1300watts is hella loud..your system probably will max out at a "true" 300 watts for both subs...and you do get what you pay for...alpine is head over heels better than sony...but with your setup since its not big i would keep the sony amp

considering subs are rated different than amps, both are lies,, if you ran a real 1300 w amp to most any speaker made today , they couldn't handle it,, on the other side any amp that actually put out a real 1300 w , it would be huge,,
consider what you are using it for, that determines which is better,, if it is for just having it sound the way you want it to,, get it , and enjoy,,

Sound quality-wise, the Alpine should be cleaner...

I have used a sony amps in the past. I kept it for about a week. The sound quilty was just not what I was looking for. But if you think your sound quilty is fine I don't see a reason to change it.

Alpine if you want dependability. I know a few that have been thumping for years with no problems...

Sony's are good for short term, but eventually they'll die.

Go with Alpine if you want to hook it up and forget about it.
