What auto tranny in 98 2wd 4.0 V6 Explorer?

My cousin has one and has no reverse and wanted me to do some research for him on here but first I need to know what automatic tranny it has. He says it only has 4gears but I thought they all had 5 speeds by 98?

yeah if it is the SOHC its the 5r55e 5 speed auto. decent tranny has some flaws that need to be addressed.

take a look at the rebuild diary in the transmission section.
