What brand alternator is recommended? Reman or rebuilt?

So had it changed at the local Ford Quick Lane center. I was trying to find a place that would supply the alternator and do the job and not cost more than the worth of the car and Quick Lane could do it for less price than others. Midas wanted almost $700 for a reman'd part and 2 yr warranty for parts and labor, same with Brakes Plus. At Midas, I could buy the alternator somewhere else and they would install but that was getting too clumsy when it came to warranty work. So settled on Quick Lane. Installed a reman'd alternator for less than $400 total with lifetime warranty on the alternator and 1 year on the labor.

Took it home and on the way, ran with the lights on, A/C, (front and rear) heated seats, wipers, just about everything and monitored voltage on my phone. Never dropped below 13.6v and red battery light never came on. So I'm calling it fixed for now.

Thanks for all the input. Glad the board got back up. Thanks to Rick for getting us back on line.

^^ My alternator went about 4 years ago and had it replaced at Ford also with a reman. It's still working after over 100k.

Thanks. That gives me some confidence that I made the correct choice.

I couldn't believe how buried the alternator is on the 4.6 compared to other Ford products. Most have them mounted in an easy-to-reach location with not a lot of other parts needing to be removed for access and removal. But they only charged one hour labor. Might have taken me all morning to do the job. They did test drive the vehicle after install about 4 miles so that's good. I could tell because the trip meter got reset when they disconnected the battery.
