g'day fella's

I have read that some of you have brought your own personal code readers, can you tell me what it is that you use and how much it is going to cost, i will convert into aussie dollars thanks.

i have used the Carmen scanner aswell as the Snap-on scanner, and these are well into the $12000-15000 range.

I hate the fact that this is the only way to get the code out of the computer....

thanks

most people probably just have a simple OBD-2 scanner, about 100-150 USD to start.

Thanks very much fella's

But can you tell me if you can clear the trouble code with a code reader, as there isn't much point if you can't as you would have to pay someone to clear the codes anyway:D
thanks

You can usually clear codes by removing the battery cable, waiting a few minutes, and reconnecting the cables. The truck will run slightly different until the computer has a chance to relearn the adjustments made for your particular vehicle.

Also, some codes will clear themselves after a certain number of driving cycles without seeing the problem.

The OBDII code reader I just bought for $150 can clear codes. It seems to work really well. I don't remember the brand off hand though, it came from an Advance Auto store.

Thanks again

i have tried to clear codes though removing the neg terminal, as in some cars this can work, but in this model i think that the some codes can't be removed from the computer as they are stored in memory (EEprom)??? (don't quote me on that), i think some codes can reset after so many key ons, but in my case this was a o2 lean in the left bank, i did write the code down somewhere but anyway, i cleaned the IAC after reading some of the post's mentioned in this forum, so far this has worked, and my cold start has stopped hunting.

it has happend twice now, and has cost me $50 to get removed, so if it wasnt going to be to exspensive i will probly get one.

so i thank you heaps.

i am a qualified mechanical tech, but i was factory trained in Holdens which in Australia is Fords arch enemy lol, i left in 99 for greener pastures. so im not up to date with any of the lastest technques. but to give you an eg of what i use to work on Holden have exported a car that i think is known in the states as a Pontiac GTO, but don't quote me on the GTO bit, i was also trained in Isuzu jackaroo and rodeo but i have no idea what the are called in the states, but they over your way too.
thanks fellas
