what engines will fit in 99 x sport 2 dr.

looks like im heading for a rebuild..just wondering what engines will bolt right in to my 99 sport...it has the sohc at the moment but im wondering if i can use an ohv or a 4.6 ?

anyone from the local edmonton alberta area have an engine?

Factory options for your year were the 4.0 (SOHC and OHV). The front end of the sport is identical to the front end of the 4door so you can also put a 5.0 V8 in there with little modification (read: you need to do a ton of wiring). Also with the 5.0 you would need to swap out the entire drivetrain (engine, trans, transfer case, driveshafts, etc)

Not sure a 5.0 will fit -- the drivetrain is longer so not sure it will still clear everything in the back (gas tank, axle, etc..). But I'd stick with the SOHC, its more "powerful" than the OHV although it requires a bit more upkeep. But even if you get another 70k miles out of the rebuilt engine, thats plenty.
