The local Ford dealer quoted me $486 for basic brake service on both axles. I'm sure I can beat that at some of the better independent shops around, but I'd like to have a rough idea of what is reasonable. I don't have access to tools right now, so I'm stuck having to pay someone else. :banghead:

you might try sears I know the one here in anchorage we charger $15 bucks for a complete brake evaluation, then if you have any work done the 15 is waved i think its usually $65 for front or rear plus cost of pads and the rotor turning is included.

just buy some tools and do it yourself. its alot cheaper plus the benefit of knowing you did your own work.

this all comes down on what are they doing? Installing new pads and rotors? if so, what kind?
and at this point, if you need new rotors, your best bet is just get the parts together and do you own brake job!

Just pads and turning the rotors is all, the rotors themselves should be fine. $65 sounds great, though I've heard both good and bad about Sears. I got another quote today for close to $500 from a different shop. If I can't get this under $300 I'll probably go tool shopping. $300 will still get you quite a few tools.

Thanks.

We charge about $130 for all four brakes, not including parts.

And if the boss is in the shop its usually $around $210 or more becasue we have to bleed your brakes.. Were not allowed to push in the calipers without cracking the bleeder screw, which means having to heat up the caliper or cylinders with a torch to break open the rusted bleeder screws we sometimes get
