I found this pretty decent deal which is a Polk MOMO mm104 10 inch sub with a custom box for less than their asking for the sub itself.

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/...?s=0&c=10&g=510&I=107MM10&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N

My last sub was a kenwood dB+12 and I had it running on an bridged 2ch MTX amp that pushed something like 425Watts, but it would sound distorted sometimes when I really cranked it. Nevertheless it was stolen so now the replacement plan:

I wanted to grab this Polk MOMO 10" because it looks like it was built to deliver and has nearly 25mm of displacement (x max). I was wondering what amp would be best to power it? It has a 500W RMS at 4 ohms (Crutchfield lists 150-500W). I was thinking of this RF amp which will put out 450W bridged at 4 ohms:

Will this be enough, or should I go with a different brand that might give me more for my money? (I'll probably purchase the amp and sub at soundomain) Thanks for your input. Also if anyone already owns this sub, whadaya think?

Thanks

ok to power it id use mtx 801D http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder801D.cfm or mtx 1501D http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder1501D.cfm both of them will power it well one more so but itl cost more and mabey blow it up? i dont know about momo power handaling

the one thing i see about the momo is its 85DB sensitive that usually says its gunna be kinda sloppy but it is a 10 and the 10s i have heard that are around 85db sensitivity have sounded very good

talk to expo5.0 about the mtx amps he wil know more theres probably another amp u can use but i am not familiar with them but itl get u started and thinking =)

o yah..momos have cool speaker grills =)

Thanks for the suggestions, In reading the specs on all the amps it gives the different wattage outputs for different voltage inputs. At what voltage range do the second gen explorers usually run. I have a voltmeter, but have never tested the actual input voltage to my amp.

Just make sure you dont exceed the recomended wattage, my friend swears by these subs, but has gone through a couple sets due to overpowering...They do sound pretty good though...

ur expo normally runs at 14.4? when above 1k?rpms but lol when u tax the system with a high powerd amp it likes to dim the lights...so i dont know what would happen when u plugged those in thats why i gave u 2 examples lol if it were me id go with the 1501D =) but if u dont want huge over powering bass then go with the smaller one itl make the sub pound almost to its limit but still sound very nice w.o blowing things up =)

Is the MTX Thunder 801d that much better than the RF Power 451s which would supply 450W instead of 400W for quite a bit less money?
I am looking for clean, non-distorted sound, even when pushing my sub near it's limits. At the same time I would rather not run it at the max RMS cause I'd like the sub to last a long time rather than get the extra thump.

If you're looking for a budget amp, try looking at the Profile California 600M at the zeb
http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/profile.html
It's 420 (RMS) x 1 at 2 ohm and $ 110.00 with free shipping. In the Clarus version, it's $ 125.00 (free shipping) and 450 (RMS) x 1 at 2 ohm - and it's chrome.
I've not used a Profile mono amp before but their multi-channel amps that I've used and seen put out what they say they will.

I forgot to mention earlier about that Polk Momo. One of my nephews has that sub in a Subzone box (.8 cf sealed) and is powering it with - get this - one of those Scosche 2-channel amps that you buy at WalMart for < $ 100.00. It only puts out about 250 RMS bridged at 4 ohms so it's underpowered but it sounds pretty darned good. Imagine what it would sound like with a decent amp.

Thats good to hear that a little power still pushes this sub! It is a 4 ohm sub though, so I need an amp that pushes near 500W @ 4 ohms. Also I've heard a couple of times to stay away from Profile amps... I've never used them so I'm not sure. I have only used MTX in the past, but I'm surely willing to try another brand.

Also I may try to mount this sub in a Q-logic stealth box in the rear. I have seen some pictures of people's amps in the Left rear corner pannel across from the sub location. How much room is there to mount an amp?

Thx

bump

Is there any advantage of a mono channel sub amp versus bridging a 2 ch amp?

I ran a 12" MOMO at 600watts and it sounded great, so I'm sure 500w in a 10" would sound spectacular. All the amps listed so far are great.

Are the DVCs 4 ohms each? If so, you can wire them in parallel, which makes a 2 ohm load. You can then get an amp that is 600W (or whatever) at 2 ohms.

If using Dual 4 ohm coils the total load would be 2.0 ohm.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like the MOMO has a single voice coil.
