i have the 40 series 2 chamber flowmaster with 2.25 in and out. The guys at flowmaster told me that if i went with the the 2 chamber not to go with any larger pipe than 2.25. You could go with larger pipe if you went with the 3 chamber. I have the exhaust on a 94. It sounds close to v-8 about the best its going to get. I think once i put headers on it should help out the sound too.
I had a Flowmaster muffler put on my 97 Sport. From inside the truck, it sounded very nice. But from outside the truck, it sounded like %&*#. I leaned this when my wife, who was driving beside me in her car, said so. I had her drive my truck and I drove beside her to confirm it because I just couldn’t believe it. Well, it was true. I took my truck to a high performance shop and they told me that the sound was normal for Flowmasters on a V6. I had them remove the Flowmaster and install a Magnaflow XL. It’s not as loud, but sounds much nicer. I have duel exhaust on my truck and may have contributed to the poor sound of the Flowmaster.
My 95 runs a Flowmaster Delta Flow 50 Series. It is a great compromise between power and sound. It sounds great and added quite a bit of "seat of the pants" feel. The 40 series would probably sound even better, but my wife would probably object to the added noise. She actually likes the deep rumble of the 50 series!
