Well firstly I think it's a federal offense to move it and chances are you won't pass inspection. So people tend to hollow them out but I'm assuming you have the 4.0 OHV which LOVES it's back pressure so chances are you will lose low end power if you remove the cat, along with being unable to inspect the vehicle.

It is supposed to help remove containments from the exhaust, make the vehicle more environment friendly. Get a new cat back exhaust if your looking for more power, again with the 4.0 OHV which is what I'm assuming you have in your truck 2.25 piping from the cat back.

O i c. i was jus wondering cause i belive mine is leaking and its about 250bucks (ithink) to get a new 1

1 night i was looking under the ca and i could c exaust smoke coming from it

I dont think thats entirely correct
I live in CO and i live in Douglas county and they require cats but my buddy who lives 10 min away in Elbert county can take them off and still pass emissions. He knows this because another one of our friends is in some junior police program and they said some countys require and some dont
I may be wrong but thats what i heard from the local authorita

if i dnt realy get any performance gain from removing it ima keep it.

Thechadders there are very few places that you don't need them and you should leave them on anyways. In AZ there is no vehicle inspection but emissions, NH was kind of the same. Not a very strict vehicle inspection but emissions. The only time I would remove them is I felt they were clogged, remove to see if that's the issue, then replace. There is no gain from removing them except for a loud and annoying sounding exhaust.

Agree to disagree. Removing the cat is not a federal offense. Depends were u live. Also yes the cat is very restrictive. Does it apply to your vechicle i have no idea. ( u didnt list what has been done). If stock leave it, if your not stock and were u live does not require it &^% can it.

Try to sell a veh. w/no cat. convt.
I know I wouldnt buy one....As for trading it in..fogetaboutit.

Well I know in Mass I had to fill stuff out as to why I was having mine replaced because they're never supposed to wear out and it was saying any screwing around or removal of the cat constitutes a federal offense.

Clean Air Act federal law makes it illegal to remove you catalitic converter. In addition, what makes you think that you have a special right to pollute the air that everyone has to breathe? Pleas leave us your address so I can come to you house a dump my garbage in you yard. If you want to wallow in you own filth that is your business, but when you want to affect me it becomes my business. Just because you do not understand does not make it OK.

As much as he Does need to chill, he's right. I would leave the cat in, seeing as how you have the 4.0L and it's the best way to stay outta trouble.

When I get my exhaust work done, I'm keeping all FOUR of my cats.

Call um like I see um. Providing ammunition for tree huggers is simply unacceptable. If you cannot afford $100 for high flow cats get a mule.

I'll save ya from the "an engine is an airpump" speech.

Yes, you will gain power, but you will also burn a bit more gas. If it passes emmisions without it then more power to you. It means that your engine is burning right and not polluting. I'm not entirely sure it's legal but at least you know your not polluting. Think of the cat as an afterburner, it heats up with the exhaust gas, then the honeycomb elements burn the rest of the mix that wasn't burned at the combustion chamber.

YES IT IS ILLEGAL REMOVE OR ALTER THE CATALITIC CONVERTERS (Federal Offence). The cats burn (convert) sulfer and nitrogen compounds which create acid rain and mutate in to carconeginic compounds. Yes it is important that we protect the air that we all have to breath. Tree huggers love to point at off roaders as environmentaly ignorant and irresponsible. Are we?
