Okay so today I am in walmart and I'm going to change my oil. I picked up some oil and then get a motorcraft oil filter. I didn't look at the filter on my '96 and I just picked up a mororcraft FL-1A. I thought because my dad's Bronco with the 302 had the same oil filter, my explorer with the 302 should also. No way! The filter I have on my expo is a shorter filter and the FL-1A will not fit because it is so tight there. My question: anyone know the stock number of the oil filter I should use? Preferably a motorcraft number. I looked on the filter I have that was on my expo but there are no numbers on it. TIY.

If you have one, look in the owners manual. It should be near the back in the "Specifications" section.

I have an 01 Sport 4.0 SOHC and it uses the FL-1A.

Nah, no owners manual. Mines definatly not an FL-1A. What's on there is like 1/4-1/2 the length. It's tight in there. The filter itself faces the front of the vehicle and if I try to put the FL-1A on there, #1, I can't even start to turn the filter because of space restrictions and #2, If the filter even would twist on, It would surely be in touch with the fan shroud.

Look at my post again, I put the number on ther for you.

Hey Dman...You da man!! ;) Thanks that definatley helps. I didn't even think to look at the motocraft website.

ph 16 fram sounds like what you have but it should be a ph 8a or fl1

A PH8 and FL1 is too long
