1999 4.0 OHV Sport
Hey everyone, I have a 1999 4.0 OHV Sport, and I was wondering what kind of tranny I have. I mean, I see AOD or something or the other, and I haven't a clue what that means, hehe.
Also, I'm looking for a torque converter for my car, that's why I want to know what tranny I have. Anyone know anything about torque converters, or can give me a site that sells one for my year and model? Thanks alot guys.

i'm in the same boat with my 95 xlt... i see acronyms all over the place, and it does nothing for me. i've read just about every thread on torque converters, and it seems like a really good idea. ANY help would be appreciated.

91-94 OHV: A4LD
95-98 OHV (changeover fuzzy): 4R55E
SOHCs and (98)+ OHV: 5R55E
5.0: 4R70W

The 95 has the 4R55E, the 99 has the 5R55E.

Alec, do you feel the torque converter is a good mod? I've seen them start at around $450, and i'm not sure if i should just get headers instead...

BTW, those are all automatic trannies.

As for the TC, just stick with the stock one unless it's bad obviously. I'm still using a stock TC. I've tried 2 "built" ones, but they only caused me problems.

Don't get headers unless you already have intake, catback exhaust, TB, chip.

right... right now i have kkm, throttle body/spacer, catback exhaust, and a ee MAF on the way... can chips be tuned to headers too, or does it not matter what order i get them in? i was told to get as many bolt ons as possible, before turning towards a chip.

Contact Brian Apten and ask him is headers make a difference in his programming, shouldn't too much.

great, thanks for everything, you've cleared up so much for me. i'll put you in for a raise.

LOL, a raise.

I actually pay to keep this site running!
