stock shocks with two in the rear and a little more in the front. the way i see it the x is a muscle car. who cares if it handles a little better than stock, it will still be outhandled by almost anything. so why spend money on handling? as for ride quality, i like the way mine shimmies, shakes, buckles, twists, etc. as long as it doesn't:roll: or:fire:
i'm not saying they don't make a big difference, but my x works fine now and i'm never going to take it to a track with turns on it. however, i do tow my boat, like to look nice, and like to surprise the occasional honda from stoplight to stoplight. so i spend my money to do those things. thats not to say that if i had more money to improve the ride and handling i wouldn't, its just that it isn't high on my priorities.
as for those performer ias shocks from explorer express, is any one running those with stock or cut suspension bumpers and a 1 or two inch drop. i might be interested in getting those in the near future.
I have Edelbrock's shocks for the lowered ex for the front and Bilstein (4WD model) for the rears . The reason I choose this set up is because I wanted the handling and firmness. The Blistein rear shocks are firmer than the (2WD) ones and are the same length. I believe Saleen used this set up on there XP8. I have the Saleen sway bars, so everything it pretty balanced. Also, I do some towing with some of my toys. The Edelbrocks up front I bought because of the Inertia valve feature, since I believe the front suspension does take more work than the back. The front of my suspension is maxed out, since I took the torsion bolts off, so I only probably got 2 in drop. I took the bumb stops on the front off, but I think I am going to put them back on. It sure doesn't sound good hitting pothole or bumps! I am going to try to shave the stops when I put them back on. I am satisfied what I done so far. Either way, I would just get the Bilstein or the Edelbrocks.
By the way, the Edelbrock's for lowered Ex's are firmer than the regular ones, so really it matter of personal perferance.
yea, the IAS are good for lowering 1.5" like for the kit offered from Explorer Express. I just got that kit, and it works fantastically. I love it, it handles so much better with much less body roll....
