What size socket do i need for the 2001 4.0 SOHC convertor bolts? I have tried 12mm, 13mm, 14mm and even 1/2inch and 9/16 and cant get a good socket on the convertor nuts. I have never seen such a tight dam fit to get to any bolt on a vehicle. the starter bolts alone were tough along with being so dam tough, pardon my french i am frusterated i have pulled 100's of motors out of stuff and this one has me frusterated. Of course i have a gravel driveway and that dont help. Thanks in advance all i need is the convertor nuts out and pry convertor away from flywheel and yank the motor out to fix my pass side cassettes.

Mine was 15mm. In a 92 4.0 ohv

thanks

got the 4 loose and off, now how do you have room to pry the convertor away from the flywheel? there is no room. Also when you put motor back in how do you pry it back forward to get the nuts started on the convertor studs? man there is no room i cant remember doing one this tight before but it has been along time. thanks steve

align

I am used to having a tranny with an inspection shield, so i just put the convertor so there is a stud and top, bottom, and on each side like a plus sign, but this tranny you cant see to line stuff up so i guess get so it is positioned to access from the starter hole, but how do you pry convertor foward and right now pry away from the flywheel to yank the motor?

got the motor out

Ok i got the motor out, pulled the torx headed bolt that holds the pass side cassette to replace it, now whats the best way to put back in with the limited room you have to align the convertor to flywheel? Thanks in advance Steve. i will post tons of pictures of this cassette change on the pass side as soon as i am done in the next few days.

i didnt have to pry the convertor away, i think it still is in place so i should be good, but i will spin it and see, sometimes i know from my convertor in my c-4 in my mustang once you put convertor in the tranny alot of times you have to put pressure on it and spin it to get the input shaft in the convertor.

You have to spin it and you will feel it slip in the hole.

Yeah. Just turn the crank pulley to get them lined up. Wasn't very difficult to do.

Sweet thanks

Thanks i was suprised that the convertor stayed in the tranny since i couldnt push it back, but i guess fords set it up that way. They needed to bring the access to the pass side cassette up above the tranny. its barely inside anyway. Oh well it is what it is. Thanks
