ok, heres my deal, i have to be different, and i want to do something with my taillights, i just lost my FOURTH set of taillight covers, some moron RIPPED THEM OFF MY CAR in the parking lot. go to http://www.bobsride.com to read about my other four pairs. anyway, wanted to do something more likely to remain on my car. here are my ideas, give me some feedback:

Paint them black with translucent "Stained Glass" black paint (it works, i did it on my dome lights!)

Get white outs, they look ok, but from what ive heard the red bulbs turn white after a while. i want the clear ones that have the red in them, the Euro-sytle or Altezza style, cant find anyone that makes them though.....

Taillight guards, the grill ones i vowed i would never buy because i cant afford them, but after spending $250 on FIVE pairs of taillight covers, im desperate

SOMEONE HELP ME, give me some tips/feedback, thanks!!!!

ps, i know who ripped my covers off, but i cant prove it, $&#$%!!!!!

Bob

I saw your web page....Bob really needs some money!!!

You really should get a job, then you wouldn't have these problems! Why do people steal your tail light covers.....do u have a lot of enemies?
I think your should get the clear outs, they look very cool
By the way, you can get clue lights a Kragen, Checker, or Schucks.....i work there!!! They have blue and red bulbs!

thought that i would just let you know!

Chris

i do have a job, sad to say i pull around 500 a month( if im lucky, usually 300), im in high school. 200 a month goes to the car payment, my parents pay the rest. the rest i spend on my ride, what i really want are those altezza lights!!! someone has to make them!! do your red bulbs turn white eventually?? i have a few friends that said they do, they suggested rubber caps that go over them. thanks for the input

oh, and i only have one enemy, the same guy, he has thrown crap at my car and now hes vandalizing it, and i cant @#$^ prove it!! anyone have an alarm system with napalm, electroshock and surveillance cameras ;-)

Red LED's

If your worried about the bulbs turning from red-pink-white (they do) there are now red LED's available for taillights. They are much brighter, and do not fade. I think you can get em at http://www.mmrusa.com (I had them on my old car) hope this helps ya out!

If you know who is stealing them why don't you confront him and be like I heard that you are stealing my covers, whats the deal; and if he says no (he probably will) then keep a CLOSE eye on so you can bust him for something else. Don't rat him out but threaten him to buy you more covers or something. If it's one kid and a whole group of friends, get a group together. I know the feeling of having things stolen off your car because I had fogs stolen off my car but I threatened to call the cops on the kid and I got the lights and some money and it happened while i was at work so I got paid during the whole time. As for the tailights, the bulbs do fade fast so you will be stuck paying for new ones all the time, the LED lights are a good idea, if the bulb fits into the spot for your Explorer, and the Altezzas havent been made for Explorers yet.

get clears and led's. they work great and from what i have heard, they don't fade

i couldnt find those LED lights on that website, maybe i was looking in the wrong places, can anyone find it and send me the url?? thanks

eh

My suggestion...get a complete Altezza lens replacement kit if you can afford it...IF you get the ones that have the bulbs seperate from the other internals (hollow) you can spray paint the inside BLACK for the blackout look, OR the color of your truck.
Another (cheaper)trick is to actually use masking tape and PAINT your factory lights so theyre "blacked out" or the color of your truck except for just the part where the bulbs shine...you cant lose, break, or steal the paint off the lenses. Gotta take your time to make it look good and not cheesy tho...plus you can get creative with the tape and make the pattern lines, circles, squares. stars, ford symbols, etc. etc.

i wish i could get the altezzas, no one makes them for the explorer, i tested the spray painting on the headlight from my totalled mazda 626, and couldnt get the paint off with paint thinner, so im not going to paint them at all. im getting clear lenses on the back i decided, my best hope

I bought the black out spray from summit racing ( i think its called night shades) and painted my factory explorer tail lights- they look just like blackouts but when the brake lights come one it looks factory... I think they look awesome... alot better then the clear tail lights which i also bought and then returned... first of all cause i though they looked stupid and the dumb company sent me 98 lenses for a 96- stupid people.

pur pony, when did you get the spray? i cant find it on summit, anyone know where i can find some, that is exactly what im looking for
