What was the best year for 2nd gen?

I'm looking to buy a 2nd gen ex since the first gen has kicked the bucket. I'm thinking maybe the v-8. What year was the best out of the 2nd gens?

I have a 98... I like it. My rear hatch is from a 99 and it skips the window.. [the wiper] .. my original did not.

I'd get a 2001 if I was going to be buying it in Buffalo. Check around the running boards for rust. If there is any rust at all, there are likely no rockers left underneath them. All the v-8's 98-01 are decent.
