whats the fuel release button for in the passanger foot well?

Its a small red button in front of the pass side front door along the plastic. it looks like a red button and is labeled fuel release. what does it do?

If the vehicle tips over, it will automatically shut off the fuel pump. That button turns it back on.

Or if you hit a giant pothole getting on I-75 North at Fort Street in Detroit...

As mentioned the device is the fuel pump inertia switch.. It is used like a circuit breaker to kill power to the fuel pump when it detects the vehicle has been in a collision.
