Hey all, I'm new to the board and was wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. I searched but not really sure what to search for. My problem is when I come to a stop, and the back end settles, I get a little thump from somewhere in the driveline. Sounds like from the back somewhere. If I put it in 4wd it doesn't do it so I'm assuming it's something to do with the transfer case. Also if I put it in neutral it doesn't do it. Sometimes it doesn't do it on the stop, but instead does it when I take off again.
Any ideas? It's a 98 with 4.0 and automatic with 60k miles.

Thanks,

sounds like a slip yoke that needs to be lubed. if you search about this problem you should come up with many helpful threads.

good luck!

Thanks Alec. I searched on the slip yoke and that definatly seems like it could be my problem. Hopefully that's all I'll need to do. Looks like a fairly easy fix too.

Thanks again,
