Aloha

New to the site....
So i got a 94 ranger 4.0l 2WD from my friends friend.
I towed it home and found that it had reverse but no forward gears.
noticed that the vacuum line from where all the vacuum lines connect at the intake to front passenger side of the engine was disconncted....
talked to the guy i got it from and was told that before forwad went out it had been not shifting right but it was more like loss of power when applying the gas..

The truck runs great, it idles and revs great.

So i got a trans out of anothers friend 1991 2wd 4.0l ranger with 41,000 original miles (it was his Maui County work truck...serviced and well cared for......except rusted to the max)

Installed the tranny and converter new fluid with lucas added....

I now have forward gears but its driving like the guy discribed it was acting before it broke

i have no clue whats up......i looked at the vacumes and all seems well

i drove the truck the new trans came from and there was no issue when it was in the '91????

any ideas

Mahalos for da time

4.0's are known for intake manifold leaks, which make it run poorly and directly affects the amount of intake manifold vacuum available feeding the transmission shift modulator.

Worth putting a vacuum gauge on it to tell. Search on "P0171 P0174" and read up.
