I was going down a lane at a deer camp and came upon a nice little mud hole, i put it in 4 low and it didnt lock in.. First time its done that, then i tried to locked it in again and it "clicked". I thought it locked in but when i hit the gas it start clunking? i guess thats the word. It finally locked in... I have a 96 eddie bauer with the switch the knob that says 2wd 4 auto 4 lo. PLLLLLEAAASSEEEE help!!!

Stuck in 4 wheel? Stuck in 2 wheel? Clunked once and now you have no problems? We need more details than "a little mud hole at a deer camp and who knows what."

haha yes sir. no i was in two wheel drive and as i came up to the mud hole i stopped and attempted to lock it in 4wd and it wouldnt. Finally after several tries it locked in, usually it kinda has a loud thud when it locks in but every time i attempted to lock it in it just clicked and wouldnt lock in. The first time i tried to lock it in it didnt do anything, the 4 low light just came on, and the front tires werent pullin. The second time, the same thing happened. the third time i tried to lock it in and and it sounded as if it locked in and as i pressed the gas it "clunked" i immediately let off the gas and tried to again to lock in again and it locked in. It unlocks fine, but its still having problems locking in 4wd. Thanks for replying.

there is a thread on converting your transfer case from an electric motor to a manual shifter.

the electric motor that does the transfer case shifting is not turning the selector well enough on the transfer case.
