Suspension Revisitted
OK... getting ready for phase 1 of the project (lift and tires) and I am reconsidering my suspension choices. Originally I was planning a 2" body lift and a 2" suspension lift to clear 33" tires. However, considering how much time I have to work with (or how little), I am now considering coughing up the extra cash and going with just a suspension lift.
Based on my searches, I really like the Tuff Country 4" lift, mainly because of the very nice drop brackets with camber adjustment. I can get the setup for a little under $700 with shocks and a dropped pitman arm. I also came across the Superlift 5.5" kit that does an SOA in the rear and is nearly the same price. From what I've read, however, the Superlift kit uses drop "plates" in the front that can interfere with the differential housing and cause damage at full stuff. Not something that I'm looking for, obviously, and I hate the idea of lowering the bump stops to fix this problem.
Ultimately, I think I'm looking for the best of both worlds. My truck has 168k miles on it, so I'm guessing the rear spings have a fair amount of sag. I'm thinking I'll do a home-made SOA kit in the rear (about $50), and the Tuff Country drop brackets and springs up front (about $300) to get about 4" of lift overall. The 2" kit was about $200, and the body ift was $100, so I'm not much over my initial figures (dead on if I added WAR shackles). I figure I have at least an inch of sag in the rear, so I'll probably be at 4.5" of lift with an SOA anyways, which is fine by me.
Can anyone see any problems using this setup? Does anyone have a better recommendation?
Thanks again.
