Where can I buy these nerfs?

Does anybody know where Jerry Driver bought the nerfs in this pic. http://www.explorer4x4.com/thaven_driverrunboard.jpg

I don't have that 2" skirt that most explorers on the bottom and would like to put something like this on.

Please help.

Hi kurant045,
I believe Jerry had them custom made or he made them himself. I asked him about it when we were at Truckhaven. I was thinking about seeing if Rock-Sliders would perhaps make a limited quantity for 4dr Explorers. Would you be interested?

What's the advantage of this type of step vs a standard nerf bar? I can't tell from the picture (or maybe my ignorance Dead Link Removed ), but most steps are for dress with little protection, right? My guess is these are dual purpose (protection and cosmetic step). If that's the case, I would be interested. Any idea on the cost?

Hey Jon, I don't really think that the ones in that picture are used as steps, but to protect the rocker panels from getting damaged. The ones you are thinking about (at least what I think you are thiking about) are usully only good as steps and get in the way off-road. since they are 3" tubing and they sit about an inch away from the body I supposes, then that would give you around 4" less clearance off road with the tube steps.

I see your point. What is a good way to protect the rocker panels - and anything else - without sacrificing clearance AND still using as a step? If I didn't have to bring clients around daily in this I wouldn't care about the steps! Dead Link Removed

Hey Jon, here are some pics of one of the featured explorers on this site, they don't really show the nerfs that well, but you can kinda get the point of what to get.

I think rick has some, but I forgot where I saw a pic of them. You could go to a 4x4 shop in your area and they , more than likely, will be able to make you some. I have some jeep catalogs that have great pics of them, but I don't have a scanner. Also, the local 4x4 shop around me has a website and they did have a good pic of them, but they changed their website and they don't have that pic on there any more, I will try to e-mail them and see if I can get that picture.

Hi Jon & Kurant045,

I'm Rick's wife. I'm only 5'3" and I can almost walk under our truck (just kidding). Our nerf bars don't stick out very far, but between the Oh Sh*t handle and the ability to get the front of my foot on the bar I can get into the truck.
I'm not sure how high your truck is, but unless your clients are wearing high heels or big boots they should be okay. I also have one bad knee.
Our nerf bars are custom made. We have 3 cross members, one in front, one in the middle, and one in the rear. When they built ours they tried lifting the truck with a hi-lift jack by the nerf bars. The bars flexed so they put in the center cross member. Of course, they know my husband! Dead Link Removed Anyway, good luck and hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Ray my purpose for these nerfs would be mainly cosmetic. You see my explorer is exactly the same two tone color as Jerry's and I think it looks great on his truck. I already have the chrome tubing nerf that sits a few inches below but I have that empty gap. IT looks like its missing something. When I get my three inch body lift this will be even more noticeable. so I'd like to get something like that. I guess my response to Rock Slider making a limited quantity for explorers would depend on cost. DO you have any Idea what they might go for?

I take it the third crossmember adds enough strength to raise the truck with a hi-lift jack now! I am going to have to do some searching around. All the 4x4 shops in my area are mainly cosmetic shops. I haven't met anyone that does custom apps yet - still looking though. Thanks for the pics - very helpful!

I made the bars out of 3/16" 2"x4" sQ tubing, with a 3/16" runner of 2"x2" angle iron bolted through the body seam into the 2x4 bar. Also there are 2 stringers from the bars to the frame. As for using them as steps, I do, but my wife has a real problem getting in, the bars don't stand out far enough for her to use.
