The bulb is for the headlight switch illumination, I didn't know it was suppose to illuminate being that I purchsed my ST with 60K miles on it and it never illuminated. I pulled the assembly out to do vinyl wrapping and then i noticed there was a bulb there, pulled it out and found it in 2 pieces

Possibly a dealer only part.

You can either purchase a microlamp from radio shack and replace the bulb directly in the holder

http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...&cp=2032058.2032232.2032293&parentPage=family

Or put in a tall neo-wedge LED bulb from somewhere like this

http://autolumination.com/74.htm

Or, make your own LED replacement using a 3mm LED in the color of your choice. You can use an on-line calculator to determine the resistor size. A 1/4 watt resistor (which you can get at radio shack or online) will fit in the base along with the other wire for the LED. Wrap one wire in a small heat shrink tube to avoid a short, put it in the base, and solder the leads coming out the back to the contacts on the base.

Or, you can just stick the LED and resistor in the hole, and solder the leads directly to the contacts on the switch, and skip using the base.

Your dealer will inform you there is no part number for that bulb, and that you have to buy the switch as a whole assembly.

Yeah that bothered me a lot, but then again the same thing was said when i needed to replace my 3rd brake light cover, then I later found out that even though there was no part number, the part happened to be the same as the one of the F-150. I'll more than likely do as suggested and run a custom LED setup like I did in my other Ex. I'll cross reference a few vehicles first though. I'm just annoyed that a manufacturer makes a car and in order to change something small that is removable and made to be changed, you have to change everything its attached to as well. For example, there is a sensor attached to the brake booster of my TL that has gone back. it is completely removable but in order to change it I have to buy a new brake booster as well. it isn't sold separately. Smh

You can find the same bulb in almost all other ford cars and trucks 02+. I honestly have never heard of any place that sells the bulb. The couple times someone has actually asked me to replace one, I either used microlamps from radio shack, or LEDs. In my second gen, I used all LEDs, but a second gen only uses the short neo wedge bulbs. Ford didn't start using the long ones until later.

They are actually called neo wedge bulbs by Ford as well, just so you are aware.

Also, if you choose to buy the PnP bulb from Autolumination or any other place you find that sells them, the Tall Type B (t4) are only about 60-70% as long as the ones you are replacing. They should still light your switch fairly well however.
