After reading a TON about my trans issue I actualy believe it to be the converter. Anyone know a place to get one for a good price? aftermarket or not doesnt matter to me. Also do all the AOD trannies use the sams converter? Summit has a B&M with a slightly higher stall for under 200 bucks. I obviously will try to test the old one before just bolting in a new one. I was going to change it with the trans anyway though.

You better hope your stock one is good

before you put it on your new transmission. Sometimes if the converter is really trashed it will have all kinds of crap in it and if you install it on your new transmission, well I am guessing your transmission will not last too long. A new stock converter should cost next to nothing even from the ford dealership. I am guessing under 200 dollars. any small local transmission shop could get you a stock replacement easily as well. Typically they have to cut open a converter to see if its bad when its not actually installed on the car. Having it flushed then cut open to be looked at, isn't going to be worth the money. My thought is to buy a new one and install it from the start.

Hope this helps you, in another car they thought the converter may have gone bad and taken the transmission with it and they would not warranty the new transmission unless they put some form of new converter on it as they said if the old one is bad it will just do damage to the transmission.

Although i really dont have much money right now I think I am going to just change the trans and the converter. thanks for the info it helped a lot. Funny that we towed the X back with a frontier. Actualy did rather well pulling all that weight. It was on a dolly.

Can you tell me a little more like the year, model and engine size.
If it's the explorer 4.0 there's 2 out there, but you would only the better of the two

Its a 91 4 litre. With 4 wheel drive. I thought there may have been more than one for these. Could you let me know what to look for? Thanks
