we have been trying to find the map sensor, and have had no luck. I was able to find a picture of where it is on a 91, but it isn't the same on our 92 xlt. if anyone can help out PLEASE do so. thanks in advance!!:help:

Assuming your '92 is like my '92, there is no MAP/BAP sensor to be found. Why are you looking for it?

MrShorty~ is yours a push rod V6 engine?
this is what happened: about a week ago while driving, it started sputtering then quit. after about 45 minutes we were able to get it to start and drive home. changed the spark plugs and wires, and air filter and it seemed to do the trick. drove it to and from work (about 7 miles each way) then on the 5th day drove about 20ish miles and it did the same thing. also if you dont go easy on the gas pedal (when you get it to start again) it bogs down. well, after checking several things, the guys at autozone said to get the MAP sensor off and bring it in so they could test it. we know it's not the fuel pump or iac. pretty sure the injectors are ok, but at this point we are stumped. any ideas??

Are you sure they didnt say MAF sensor?

I am starting to think that they were talking about MAF sensor, but the picture they brought up was of a MAP sensor. I'll try to test the MAF and see from there.

The 4.0 OHV is the only engine Ford put in the 1st gen Explorers, so, yes, I have the 4.0 OHV, too.

How do you know it isn't fuel pump? Your symptoms are just like mine when the fuel pump overheats in hot weather. If you haven't yet, I'd put a fuel pressure gauge on it and an ammeter on the fuel pump to be sure the pump is not cutting out.

1st step in diagnosing any of the engine management sensors would be to pull codes. Have you pulled codes, yet? Those are the first two diagnostic steps I would take in a case like yours.
