Hello,
I have bought a1996 Explorer, 4.0 V6 EFI. It was sold in Germany and the last owner before me imported it in France form Germany. I am asked for the VIN. I must show the one which is on the body. But i can't find it. I have found the sticker in the motor compartment, the sticker behind the front window but where is the engraved body one ? The manual say that it is at the bottom near the passenger seat. But, nothing !
Could someone help me ?

Thanks

Greg

Should be on the drivers door, or in the jamb.

isn't the VIN on the dash in front of the drivers side ? Thats where is should be..

yes there too,
The VIN is in many, many locations on a vehicle.

when I had the truck ripped apart for dynamatting, I found the VIN in all sorts of weird places...

Some easy ones, at least on my truck: On all the windows except the windshield, in every door jamb, on the top of the dashboard on the drivers side, viewed through the window, and on a sticker in the engine compartment..

The most common place is to view it looking threw the windshield. On the drivers side really low, there is an opening that has a metal place with the vin on it. I believe that is a requirement or at least a standard for the vin to be in that location along with probably many other locations like people said.

I know the English Explorers don't have a sticker on the driver's door. I remember there was a thread started by Howard or someone from England was asking the exact question. I didn't follow the thread so I don't know the outcome.

I know.. my dad bought a 66 mustang from a auction that someone drilled through the vin .. We took it to the local CHP with the passenger side fender off.. They verified that the car wasn't stolen and it was the correct vin number.. Vins are all over the place.. You'll see them on the frame, body parts, most hidden however the right people looking will know where to find them..

the vin should be stamped on every original piece of every vehicle from the factory if it isnt then that means its not an original piece(replaced due to accident or some other circumstance).
